Sure, why not?

I've only ever dabbled in forum roleplaying but I'm up for giving it a shot.

Do you have any preferences as far as rules or settings?

I'd be happy to run a sword and sorcery sort of game using a rules light system like or (a very stripped down version of d20). Both are free as PDFs online. I'd also like to run/play Call of Cthulhu or Stormbringer. Naturally, I'd be willing to play almost anything.

Well, I'm mostly up for anything... but CoC is of course one of my old time favourites! :)

CoC sounds good. I have the BRP book. I think it is 90% compatible with all the other versions of the system (Runequest, Stormbringer, CoC).

I think Chaosium has a free quickstart version of the rules available as well. One of the things I love about the BRP system is that all a player really needs is their character sheet.

Do you all have any preference as far as time period?
Gaslight, Victorian, Classic, Dark Ages, Delta Green/Modern, Future?

WOW! We're getting there!!

I have few manuals and stuff and I have an older version of the basic rule book, but I think it is pretty much the same the rules have not changed much.

I can get yo9u some stuff if you plan to come to the next game day on the 26th at the tintagel.

I plan on going, so we can talk in person then. I think I have an older edition of CoC, but it's in a box in parent's attic. Assuming it's still there, I'll bring it back this summer.

I have a lot of respect for Chaosium for not radically changing their system every few years to drive sales, unlike certain other companies.

What would you all think about something set in the early 30s?

EDIT: I reconsidered. What about colonial New England?

Again, I'm up for anything. Although I've mostly run 1920s and 30s campaigns I think all the different time periods have their charm.

Colonial New England? Sure why not?:D

Colonial New England sounds interesting, and right in line with the literature background too.

Still, I'm partial to more modern settings myself, just because it leaves less of the setting to the players' imaginations - making the actual horror element foremost. I'm up for just about anything CoC though. I poked around looking for that Chaosium quick start and didn't find anything yet.

mechanics question: is this going to be an "honest john" format where we roll our dice and report results, a "hand of the gods" format where you (as GM) roll all dice and tell us the results, or a "salesman" format where we describe actions and you judge results based on a combination of our stats and how cool the description is?
