Well, a big part for me when it comes to these kinds of games are the actual miniatures. :)
But I guess I'd be up for doing some kind of test or demo games with markers.

As for the scale, I think they say in the beginning of the rulebook that weapon ranges etc aren't actually to scale and are made for playability rather than realism.

Wow! I didn't realise how heavily into miniatures you are. It is little wonder why owning the miniatures would be a bonus. I just read the "Broadsides-Full Thrust" blog you had and I thought it was very interesting! You also have talent for painting. When I was younger, my friends and I would recreate Yamamoto - StarBlazer battles by making up some pretty intense rules incl the use of Harpoon (I had some serious time on my hands then). Did you guys ever finish that battle afterall?

In Toronto, there was/is a store that has a ****-load of miniatures for the HG on sale. If I had known I was going to get back into things ....... grrrr. I know they can still be bought here and there.

Do you guys have those old battletech maps from yonder-when? Those could probably be used.

Well, when I was younger I played a lot of GW games and since then I've always liked painting minis. The Full Thrust minis are the first I've painted since I came to Japan though. Glad you like the blog, and thanks for the kind words! Now that I'm back home it'll get updated again. :)

We never did finish that battle, but it was a good first taste of what FT offers.

As for HG minis I'm guessing it'll be hard to get hold of them outside of the internets. :(

has and will aways have what a gamer looks for ... it is just costly. I suppose if there is one good sized order then the shipping will be reduced.
There are ships for the Jovian Chronicals that I really like. Actually, that system is Macross all over. I don't imagine it would be too too difficult. I do have the Lightening Strikes dl.

Which brings me to I invisioned. A Jovian / HG universe whereas space is being broached again and Earth is once again becoming active. This time though, Earth is on the mission to unite the stars from pending disaster ... will the HG world unite and fall for the "farce"? ... or is it?

Getting together on an order to reduce the cost of shipping seems like a good idea.

In the old days with battletech we just played with X amount of points and picked whatever mechs to use for that cost. There were no clans or any sort of campaign. We started at the end of each board and went nuts for about 6 hours.
How would you guys want to play this if we get around to it? Should we adopt some sort of scenario or campaign? I have a few floating in my brain somewheres. I would have to reread the basics and throw around some ideas if this is what we want to do.
What types of gears are we interested in?

Brett

I generally prefer scenarios to point based.

I had an idea for something involving two sides both trying to capture a VIP in a car. The VIP, perhaps a scientist of some sort, is trying to get off the board and evade both sides. I'm not sure how well this would actually work as a game though.

I'd also been thinking about a Jovian Nightmares sort of thing. Assaulting a hollowed asteroid or some other form of orbital habitat. With monsters. That might work better as an RPG though.

Intel had leaked that a notorious criminal (Gear Jacker) / Diplomat had been given a pardon / leave from a Peace River facility and will be on the free side come the morrow. He/She will be lightly escorted to the light rail system and then be rocketed northward to his/her home territory. The Norther Alliance need him/her safe and sound due to his knowledge of the Souths new Gear specs, whereas, the South need to capture him, or if all else, delete him.
Schematics of the area will be given to both sides for a quick overview (prior to the game). The third part will be the car and its limited escort (It has a pick of some armed escorts). All 3 parties have objectives and a point base to set up prior to commencement. I think the benefit would be that there won't be a need for a GM and we can all get our hand in.

I think your idea for the car and diplomat fit in with this idea quite well.

I'm more for scenario/campaign based game play as well. I also generally prefer smaller skirmishes that you can actually finish in a reasonable time. But considering the relative complexity of the system and the cost of the miniatures I guess smaller battles would only be natural when playing HG. :D

I'm definitely most into the Northern gears. I like their slightly clunky look. Hehe!

That Jovian Nightmares idea sounds great! But like you say, I think it would be better as a roleplaying scenario. I'd love to play it!

John, you mentioned that you have both northern and southern minis. Are you aiming at having two forces or is there any chance I could take the northern ones of your hands? :P
